OUR STORY

HOW IT STARTED

As a child growing up in Ottawa, Ontario, Sarah spent countless hours playing ice and street hockey, where she developed a deep appreciation for the sport and the unique community that it creates.

Sticks Together is a not-for-profit foundation started by former NCAA Division I student-athlete Sarah Thompson during her time at Syracuse University and St. Lawrence University. Sticks Together was built on the belief that hockey transcends boundaries - social, cultural, and geographic. By bringing communities together through the shared love of hockey, we aim to bridge cultural divides, foster understanding, and empower the next generation to grow both on and off the ice.

THE MISSION

Using hockey as an entry point to build meaningful connections with communities and empower children through the joy of sport. With the support of our partners, Sticks Together continues to expand its reach, creating meaningful experiences that not only celebrate the sport but also drive lasting social impact globally.

In 2025, Sarah received the Hockey Humanitarian Award, which is awarded annually to college hockey's finest citizen.
